AVX Corporation has released what is claimed to be the industry’s first MLV TVS devices rated for 175C operation. The new TransGuard VT Series high-temperature MLVs offer remarkably reliable bidirectional overvoltage protection across operating temperatures stretching from -55C to 175C with zero derating across the whole range, are qualified to AEC-Q200, and are currently offered in compact, surface-mount 0603 and 0805 cases sizes. They also give some broadband EMI filtering in their off state, which extends their use in sensitive automotive circuits by decreasing the demand for discrete MLCC capacitors and is particularly advantageous considering current market-wide MLCC supply shortages. Application suitability for the new MLVs reaches to circuit protection in other markets as well, and further performance highlights comprise high current and energy handling capabilities, low leakage current, and multi-strike capabilities per IEC 61000-4-2.
The MLVs are ZnO-based ceramic semiconductor devices with non-linear, bi-directional V-I characteristics comparable to those of back-to-back Zener diodes, but with elevated current and energy handling abilities and the addition of EMI/RFI attenuation functionality. The new MLVs increase the temperature range of overvoltage protection beyond the series portfolio’s previous maximum of 150C.
“The unique design of our new TransGuard VT Series allows AVX to offer the industry’s first and currently only multilayer varistor transient voltage suppressors rated for 175C operation that don’t require derating across the full operating temperature range,” said John Gallipeau, technical marketing manager for power film capacitors and circuit protection at AVX. “These characteristics, combined with the added benefits of greater current and energy handling capabilities in the on-state plus EMC filtering in the off-state, provide automotive and industrial design teams with a compact solution for protecting advanced applications against the transient pulses that so often encountered in harsh, high-temperature environments.”
Taiyo Yuden has launched its 1005-size three-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor A3K105BBJ106MR (1mm x 0.5mm x 0.5mm, with height as the maximum value, capacitance of 10μF, and rated voltage of 4V).
Murata has added to its DFE series of power inductors that have been developed particularly for use within in-vehicle applications such as ADAS, automotive infotainment systems and power-train components.
AVX Corporation has released a new series of miniature, surface-mount, J-lead tantalum capacitors that give high reliability and high volumetric efficiency in high-temperature industrial and automotive applications.
Complementary to its DC-DC converter portfolio, RECOM now provides its RLS line inductor series, which has been pre-tested to meet both conducted and radiated interference limits.
